The Omega Seamaster, Speedmaster, Constellation, and De Ville each have a distinct character that changes completely with the right leather strap. Whether you want to dress up a Speedmaster Moonwatch for evening wear, take a Seamaster Diver out of the office, or give a Constellation Globemaster a vintage register, the strap is the simplest meaningful upgrade. This guide covers leather strap choices for the four main Omega families. Every lug width has been verified against Omega.com, Fratello, Strap Mill Canada, and Bulang & Sons. Every recommendation connects the character of the watch to the qualities of the leather.
Omega Strap Sizing: Three Rules and One Exception
20mm dominates modern Omega: Seamaster Diver 42mm, Aqua Terra 41mm, Speedmaster Moonwatch, Railmaster, Seamaster 300 Heritage, Globemaster, Speedy '57 Co-Axial. Smaller cases drop to 19mm: Aqua Terra 38, Planet Ocean 39.5, Trilogy 39, Speedy '57 LE 38.6mm. Larger Planet Oceans climb: 43.5mm = 21mm, 45.5mm = 22mm. The Constellation Manhattan (current Constellation Co-Axial 38mm and 41mm) uses an integrated case with four "Griffes" claws, no standard flat lug. Only the Globemaster 39mm in the Constellation family takes a standard flat strap.

Leather Straps for the Omega Seamaster
The Seamaster is Omega's most leather-receptive family. The Diver 300M, Aqua Terra, Planet Ocean, and Railmaster all benefit from a leather strap that softens the sports register. The Aqua Terra in particular was practically designed for daily-wear leather.

Recommended leathers:
- Togo calfskin is the all-round choice for daily wear. Suits black, blue, and grey dial Seamasters equally. See Togo Black, Togo Grey, and Togo Gold Brown.
- Alligator in blue or grey matches the Seamaster blue dial and elevates the watch toward dress register. See Handmade Blue Alligator Omega strap and Grey Alligator Omega.
- Black alligator for the Seamaster Diver 300M black dial, particularly the ceramic bezel. See Black Alligator for Omega Watches.
- Epsom for the Aqua Terra, the structured calfskin holds shape in office wear. See Dark Blue Epsom and Etoupe Epsom.
Lug width: 20mm for the Diver 300M 42mm, Aqua Terra 41mm, Planet Ocean 42mm, Seamaster 300 Heritage 41mm, and Railmaster 40mm. 19mm for Aqua Terra 38mm and Planet Ocean 39.5mm. 21mm and 22mm for Planet Ocean 43.5mm and 45.5mm respectively.
Leather Straps for the Omega Speedmaster
The Speedmaster Moonwatch is the most iconic Omega and one of the most-recognised watches in the world. Its straight twisted-lyre lug shape is built for flat-end straps, and the watch transforms on leather in a way few other sports chronographs do. Buzz Aldrin wore his Speedmaster on a leather strap after the Apollo 11 mission. The combination has earned credibility.

Recommended leathers for the Speedmaster Moonwatch (42mm, 20mm lug):
- Black Togo is the safest first leather strap for a Speedmaster, keeping the watch wearable daily. See Togo Black or the Black Togo Omega Deployment Buckle for the deployment-buckle option.
- Shell Cordovan for the long-game choice. The dense horsehide develops a patina that matches the Moonwatch's heritage character. See Black Shell Cordovan.
- Alligator for evening wear. Transforms the Speedmaster from sports chronograph to formal accessory. See Matte Black Alligator.
- Crazy Horse or distressed leathers for the rugged daily option. See Waxy Crazy Horse.
Lug width: 20mm for the standard Moonwatch (Hesalite and Sapphire variants), Speedmaster Racing 40mm, and Speedmaster '57 40.5mm. 18mm for the discontinued Speedmaster Reduced 39mm. 21mm for Speedmaster Racing 44.25mm.
Leather Straps for the Omega Constellation

The Constellation is Omega's most complex family for strap buyers. The original 1982 Manhattan design and all modern Constellation Co-Axial / Master Chronometer references use an integrated case with four polished "Griffes" claws at 3 and 9 o'clock positions. There is no standard flat lug, and a regular flat-end strap will not fit. Aftermarket straps for these references require a reference-specific curved end piece.
The single exception is the Constellation Globemaster. Despite carrying the Constellation name, the Globemaster has conventional 20mm flat lugs and behaves like a standard dress watch. Black or dark brown alligator suits it particularly well. See Matte Black Alligator or our Dark Brown Alligator.
Important: if a buyer says "Constellation" without specifying Globemaster, confirm the reference number before ordering. The current 38mm and 41mm Constellation Master Chronometer cannot use a standard flat-end strap.
Leather Straps for the Omega De Ville
The De Ville is Omega's pure dress watch line. The Prestige, Trésor, and Hour Vision are formal-only references, no sports register. Every De Ville is designed for leather, and the strap is more visible on these slim cases than on the heavier Seamaster or Speedmaster.
Recommended leathers:
- Alligator is the historically correct choice for any De Ville. Matte Black Alligator for modern dress, Dark Brown Alligator for warm-dial De Villes.
- Shell Cordovan develops the longest patina on a dress watch worn daily. See Black Shell Cordovan.
- Buttero or Swift calfskin for a smoother dress register without exotic leather pricing. See Dark Brown Buttero and Swift Black.
Lug width: 18mm for De Ville Prestige 36.5mm. 20mm for De Ville Prestige 39.5mm, De Ville Trésor 40mm, and De Ville Hour Vision 41mm.
Leather Type Comparison for Omega Straps
| Leather | Character | Best Omega match | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Togo calfskin | Pebbled grain, scratch-resistant | Seamaster, Speedmaster daily wear | $90 |
| Epsom calfskin | Structured, cross-hatch, shape-retaining | Aqua Terra, office wear | $85 |
| Shell Cordovan | Dense horsehide, non-creasing, deep patina | Speedmaster, De Ville daily wear | $150 |
| Alligator | Exotic tile pattern, formal register | Seamaster, De Ville, formal Speedmaster | $220 |
Practical Notes on Wearing Leather on an Omega
Confirm Globemaster vs Manhattan Constellation. The single most common Omega strap mistake. The Globemaster takes a standard 20mm flat strap; the Manhattan-style Constellation Co-Axial and Master Chronometer do not. Always check the reference number before ordering a Constellation strap.
Quick-release is widely supported on Omega. Most Seamaster and Speedmaster references use standard 1.78mm spring bars, compatible with quick-release variants. Specify quick-release at checkout if you want tool-free swapping between metal bracelet and leather.
Aqua Terra in humid weather. The Aqua Terra is Omega's office-and-everywhere watch, often worn daily in tropical climates. For Singapore or Malaysia buyers, Epsom is the most appropriate calfskin (its cross-hatch grain handles humidity better than smooth leathers).
Speedmaster taper. Most Speedmaster Moonwatch leather straps look best with a stronger taper than dive watch straps. Standard taper for a 20mm Speedy strap is 20mm to 16mm at the buckle. AugLeather cuts all tapers to order.
AugLeather Omega Leather Watch Straps
Every strap is handcrafted in Ho Chi Minh City and made to order. You specify the Omega reference, leather type, colour, lining, and stitching thread at checkout, and we build the strap to fit your specific watch. Production takes 3 to 5 business days for calfskin, 5 to 7 days for exotic leathers (alligator, Shell Cordovan). Shipping to Singapore is SGD $5 (standard, 2 to 3 weeks) or SGD $60 (DHL Express, 3 to 5 days).
